The registry is clean when it contains only keys and data that describe the current state of the system. This means all the information about the user profiles and preferences, the computer software, and the computer hardware is up to date. There are the file associations which map applications to particular file extensions, for example. Names of the applications installed are stored with their directory paths, along with software components such as ActiveX objects. Within the registry there is even information concerning computer security. Account numbers and catalogs are held there. A huge quantity of data essential to the computer is kept in the registry, in other words.

This procedure is dangerous if you don’t know exactly what needs to be changed. Editing the registry this way can take hours.
Using a registry cleaner application is safer and quicker. These programs are able to find and repair the errors in your registry. Your PC will start faster and run faster with a clean Windows registry. And it will have fewer application errors, system crashes, and error messages.
