Is your computer suffering from hung-ups, recurrent freezing episodes, frequent BSoDs, slow boot-ups or slow application start-ups? If the answer is yes, then you are probably facing one of the most common and annoying issues in Windows-based systems: Registry degradation.
Windows Registry is the core of the Windows operating system. All the information about Windows appearance and behavior is kept in there. Besides, the registry is used by most programs you install in order save their configuration parameters and other important and very sensitive data. Every time a program is installed, a lot of new entries are generated. In theory, all those application related entries are eliminated in an automated way when that program/application is uninstalled. Even so, this is not always true in the practice, and many times you’ll see that there are a lot of programs that are not able to delete the entries they created in Windows Registry, thus, those left entries become obsolete.
As installations and un-installations come and go, Windows Registry grows in size due to the accumulation of such obsolete entries making Windows to use longer and longer times to find, read and execute data in the registry with the ensuing slow-down of your computer and giving as a result all the issues I mentioned before. All these troubles and annoyances can be avoided by cleaning and repairing Windows registry periodically.
